I’ve been trying to get some work done at home and my neighbors are less than considerate with their noise levels! Instead of getting into a verbal sparring match regarding their rude behavior. I chose to play some music, to sweeten the atmosphere. Which got me to thinking of all the ways we sweeten a situation to be more tolerable; “A Spoon Full of Sugar”. Has masking less than pleasurable experiences made us intolerant of anything disruptive? We mask our environments and emotions. I recall my mother referring to someone as being so SWEET she’s sickening! What do we do when things are too good? Do we sabotage what’s good by adding misery?
As crazy as all this seems we do both! We avoid unpleasant situations even if they might be beneficial or we mask them. The same is done when things get too good we find away to muck it up – After all we’re not deserving of anything this good!
Most of this blog has been tung in cheek but let me state once again the importance of knowing ourselves. Are we constantly running for the artificial sweetener because we can’t take the bitter reality or are we looking for ways to sabotage ourselves because we feel undeserving? Maybe we do both, most of us do… Question is can we be aware of when and how we do this and do we grow from each experience?
Just a spoonful of reality my friends, feel free to add sweetener…
