Quick Thought…

As the title of my last post suggests, my life is a bit hectic at the moment. However I felt compelled to share a few quick thoughts with you. First if you haven’t discovered Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday on OWN check it out! This week she had on Carolyn Myss and it was a fabulous interview. Here is my favorite quote from the show; “Have no judgement, no expectations, and give up the need to know what happens tomorrow.” ~ Carolyn Myss…  That my friends was only one of the many insightful thoughts of the interview. I’m seriously thinking of getting a notebook just for this show!

Second thought is something I shared with a colleague of mine; we are happiest when what we do is balanced with mind, body and spirit… I want to and will explore this in more detail in an upcoming blog.

Till then peace be yours,

Ginnie

Did You Hear Yourself?

To teach is to learn twice. That was one of the first lessons taught to me as I embarked on my path of teaching… It is a lesson I share with my staff and students who wish to be teachers and it is one I’m conscious of every time I step on the mat – Like today. I was teaching a private lesson to an intermediate adult student. The physical or martial art lesson was forms. The philosophical or spiritual lesson was about letting go and just doing…

The Universe, Devine Conciousness or God (insert your preference) has a great sense of humor. While I was explaining the lesson behind the exercise, I began listening to what I was saying. Then I thought I heard another small voice saying,”Did you hear yourself?”  That’s when it struck me! No not hearing voices, but hearing my own voice. It was like reading instructions aloud so you can see and hear, therefore learn better!

Then it occurred to me. The Universe was using one lesson to teach two souls! I was only the mouthpiece… By the way dear Universe I did hear myself. My only question is should I only charge my student for a semi-private class?

Namaste,

Ginnie

Who Are We?

I’ve been reading a lot of Wayne Dyer and I’ve been thinking a lot about a topic he writes and speaks about often… Who are we? Not the you on the outside the you on the inside?

We often have “Buddy Days” at my martial arts school and we give the buddies a HELLO MY NAME IS tag. Just play along for a second, say you were a buddy what would you write on your name tag? Most people would answer what they like being called “Gin” for  instance. Yet there is so much more that follows, people will give their names and then how THEY DEFINE themselves. For instance Gin, former RN, sixth dan, martial arts student 28 years, Sarah and Manny’s daughter, Bristolian, NHSN grad, BHS class of 75, Aries… This is only a sample the list is endless…

If you could humor me a moment and write a list of your Definitions. Then cross off all the things you accomplished, do, own, were born into… and notice what’s left.

Nothing, your parents gave you your name… We can morph into anything we want to become, because we are spirits, living in a human body. The Ego needs to be defined… Our energy just seeks peace…

First Runner…

With the temps in the 60’s (a delight in early March, a gift from God in January) I took to  the streets for a run. Excited by the wonderful weather a new ipod with some fun training aps I was off. Well, into my first mile of runner’s bliss, I wondered what the first run was like and what did the runner feel?

I’m not speaking of the first person running for his or her life, but the very first person who decided to run for pleasure. What was the day like? Was is it cool and clear? Were the trees full and green as in spring?  Did geese fly over head from a small neighborhood pond?

Then I wonder how this person may have felt. Were they feeling light and alive? Grounded to the earth as one of God’s creatures. Being aware of mind, body and spirit all joined in a glorious dance. Because that’s how I felt – Blessed to be a part of this amazing universe…

Run for your life…

Giving…

Giving not GIFTING, that’s what the holidays are about…

Volunteering your time to a soup kitchen or food pantry – Lending a hand to an elder – Spending time not money on your children – Being present with yourself and your higher power – Appreciating your talents by sharing them. These are the true gifts of the season and you won’t find them on sale black Friday – They are to precious and rare!

Namaste,

Go out and hug someone!

Running on Inspiration…

Those of you who’ve been following this blog know I sustained a minor injury eleven weeks ago. The injury prevented me from running and for a short while restricted my daily activities. After much support from friends and family I took to the streets yesterday to “Walk” the CVS Charity 5K. Anyone who’s entered a 5K especially one that has 5000 people entered knows once the gun goes off so does everyone else! It is nearly impossible to Walk at least the first five hundred meters. The sense of exuberance and determination in the participants propels them forward in a joyful frenzy. Caught up in this frenzy I started a slow jog to avoid getting trampled. Once the crowed cleared I started to power walk but,  found my stride for jogging was far more comfortable and “familiar.”  So I proceeded to jog. It  was then I noticed a participant in a wheelchair wheeling his way past people in the crowd. His chair had a sign that said please don’t push. As I jogged to get beside him I said, “I won’t push you if you won’t push me.” He responded “you’ve got it all wrong, I’m doing this to push you!” Then he removed his hands from the wheels of his chair and clapped, cheering me forward. Fully engulfed in the spirit of the day, my friends, the moment and the angel in the wheelchair. I continued to run only stopping for water all the way to the end. Not only finishing a race I thought at best I’d run a mile in I beat my time from a year ago! Which proves how powerful we become when we are truly inspired – In Spirit! I believe my guardian angel spoke through that man. My father’s spirit shows up at weird times but always when I need a kick in the ass, even from a man with no legs!

From the finish line,

Ginnie
