Recharging Life…

The Taoist Yin and Yang are corresponding opposites; we can’t have light without  dark, good without evil… Nor can we train without rest and recovery – Believe me I’ve tried! Whether it was running, weight training or martial arts and more often than not all three! I have been of the opinion more is better – Not true . It is said with age comes wisdom (actually injuries, then wisdom). I’ve finally looked at myself and into my soul and have followed the above advice.

I’m currently on the seventh day of a ten-day break from work, and even though I’ve trained it has been minimal. I’ve done a great deal of reading, meditating and just being quiet alone. All of which has got me feeling physically better, happier and content! Who’d ever think that having a “Stay-Cation” could have brought me so many benefits?

We have all kinds of “chargers” to recharge everything from an iPod to a toothbrush. We’re ever aware of running out of battery life, but never aware we’re running out of life! So recharge by unplugging yourself, sit quietly and observe your life rather than being caught up in running your life…

Exiting The Fast Lane…

We’re all suffering from “chronic busy” and we need to exit the fast lane before we crash and burn!

Summers used to be fun! The pace of life slowed down. We were outdoors from 8am–8pm. There were bikes to ride, places to hide, homemade popsicle to eat, and stars to gaze at. I’m not just waxing nostalgia, I’m trying to figure out what the heck happened!  Is it I just got older? That’s true, and times have changed.  Now we’re inconvenienced with conveniences. iPods, computers, phones, video games, even cars, have taken us further from nature – From our source.

I for one will be trying to reconnect with some of the above this weekend. The only danger is I might create an itinerary for relaxing and getting back to nature! So to quote Bruce Lee “Be like water.” I will attempt going with the flow. I hope you’ll try do the same.

Exiting…

Snoring Rain…

There is something cozy about rainy afternoons, the dim light and the rhythm of the rain combine to create the perfect ambiance for one of life’s simple pleasures the nap. Together with a cat who loves to cozy up to you – It doesn’t get better! Now with the kitty warm and purring nestled against your chest you are off to dream land!  Don’t discount this simple pleasure as being lazy, far from it! We all need to slow down and recharge, why do you think babies and toddlers have so much energy? Who says naps are something we need to outgrow? Do animals? Have you ever watched your dogs and especially cats during the day? They nap! Why because it is what God intended… It is a way to shut down the brain and a time to rest the mind/body/spirit… You will be far more productive and in better humor. After all aren’t children cranky without a nap? What makes us different?  So do yourself and the rest of us a favor, grab your favorite blankie set the alarm for thirty and drift away… It’s the cheapest vacation you’ll ever take!

Well got to go Nap Time!
